Take A Walk On The Wild Side
We're inviting lovers of moths and butterflies to an event this Sunday 11th July at its Tophill Low nature reserve, where people will be able to wonder at the species found at the site and take part in a guided walk.
The walk will give visitors the opportunity to help empty moth traps, which involves using strong lights to lure the moths into a trap where they can be observed and released the next morning. After this, a guided tour will be given into the reserve's hay meadows which hold huge numbers of butterflies and an opportunity to see some of the 17 species of dragonflies and damselflies.
Tophill Low's variety of habitats mean that lots of different types of species thrive at the site, including 24 types of butterfly such as the regionally renowned marbled white and 300 species of moth - with representatives of the impressive Hawkmoth family.
The event is book in advance only and places can be booked on 01377 270690. The standard site admission fee applies of £2.50 for adults and £1.00 for concessions.
