How your charges are calculated
The amount we charge for your water supply will depend on whether or not you have a water meter installed.
Charges if you don't have a water meter
If you don't have a water meter fitted, we normally base your charges on the rateable value of your property, not on the Council Tax banding system. Rateable values were originally assessed by the District Valuer, on behalf of the Inland Revenue, and are based on many factors including the size of your home, the number of rooms, the amenities you have and your location.
The amount of water you use does not affect your charges. Your bill shows you in detail how we've calculated your charges for the year.
Charges if you have a water meter
If you've a water meter fitted, we base your charges on the amount of water you use, plus standing charges.

Our charges scheme 2010-2015
A typical annual household water and sewerage bill in Yorkshire will rise by around 0.5% each year between 2010 and 2015, plus inflation. Your bill may increase by either more or less than this average depending upon a number of factors including:
- Whether we provide both water and sewerage services to your home
- Whether you have a meter and, if so, how much water you use
- If you don't have a meter, the rateable value of your home
