Access at our education centres

We aim to accommodate children of all educational and special needs, however as these buildings are all working sites, teachers are advised to read the following information before making a booking.

Headingley Water Treatment Works

Headingley education centre has been specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair access across the treatment works and there are accessible disabled toilets on site. The education room is reached by a lift, which will also be used to transport the children to the start of the treatment works tour. The education guides are well prepared to adapt language and activities depending on the reading age and educational needs of the children in the tour group. Children with special educational needs are welcome. There is portable hearing loop system available, please advise in advance if you require this facility. Disabled parking spaces are available in proximity to the lift entrance.

Esholt Waste Water Treatment Works & Environmental Visitor Centre

Esholt is able to accommodate wheelchair access across the majority of the treatment works and in the Environmental Visitor Centre.  Please let us know in advance if there will be any wheelchair users in your group.  Disabled parking spaces are available in close proximity to the centre.  The education guides are well prepared to adapt language and activities depending on the reading age of the children involved, however activities are suitable for key stage 2 children.  Children with special educational needs are welcome.

Ewden Water Treatment Works

Unfortunately at this education centre there are no specific facilities for children in wheelchairs. Whilst the education room itself is all on one level and will take wheelchairs comfortably, the tour of the works involves staircases and is not suitable. Young people in wheelchairs have visited this site and taken part in the majority of the activities. We'll provide every opportunity to allow them as much access as possible to the tour of the treatment works. As this centre is based at an older treatment works, disabled toilet facilities are not available. The education guides are well prepared to adapt language and activities depending on the reading age and educational needs of the children in the tour group. Children with special educational needs are welcomed.

Loftsome Bridge Water Treatment Works

Loftsome Bridge education centre is unable to accommodate wheelchair access. Please note there is a spiral staircase leading to the centre. The education guides are well prepared to adapt language and activities depending on the reading age and educational needs of the children in the tour group. Children with special educational needs are welcomed.
