Edna and Mary - where it all began
Recent research has shown that
40% of our customers are unaware of what they get for their water bill .
Edna and Mary are helping us show customers where their money goes - from free reservoir walks to some of the best tap water in the world!
Why advertise when you're a monopoly?
Unlike a lot of adverts you see on TV or hear on the radio, our campaign is not about increasing profits or encouraging you to spend more money - quite the opposite really.
We know you can't choose your water company and our campaign won't appeal to everyone, but we'd like to give you an insight into where your money goes - something that 40% of our customers want to hear. We're also hoping you can save money too - we've got some
great water/energy saving tips ,
give-aways and some
free exhilarating reservoir walks .
Who's paying for all this?
This campaign is
not funded from customer bills . Each year we try to make efficiencies across the business which helps to support any communication campaigns we do.
All water companies have a marketing budget to tell customers about improvements in service, where work needs to be done to deliver better results and how water resources can be protected. In previous years we've had multiple campaigns covering these and other messages - Edna and Mary will be helping us deliver them in the future.
We're keen to engage with our customers more across a number of channels whether that's TV, email, website or letter as we recognise that different people respond to different methods of communication. Like all advertisers, we always try to find the most cost effective channel to reach the widest audience with the right message.
Why Edna and Mary?
We wanted to use people who represented our customers and could engage with all age groups in a fun, entertaining way. Elderly people are often the fountains of all knowledge and their wisdom can influence younger generations - hence Edna and Mary, our two Yorkshire spokesgrannies.
