11 Planning ahead

We welcome your views

We're required by the Government to produce a Water Resources Management Plan, which sets out our plans to maintain a balance between supply and demand for the next 25 years. The plan is drawn up following guidelines provided by our regulator, the Environment Agency and is reviewed every five years.

We're currently producing an updated plan which will come into effect in 2009. This will look at measures to combat the potential effect of climate change on water supply and demand in the future and will consider options such as reducing leakage and new resources. As part of the process we're consulting on our draft version and any feedback will be incorporated into the final plan

How can I communicate my feedback on the plan?

If you'd like to make a comment (representation) on our plan, you should write to the following address after
1 April 2008:

Secretary of State for Environment and Rural Affairs c/o Dawn Instone

Department for Environment,
Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
Water Supply and Regulation Division
Area 2C
Ergon House
Horseferry Road
London
SW1P 2A

How are we going to consult on our draft plan?

There are a series of steps we need to take to consult on the plan and produce the final version:

step 1 step 2 step 3 step 4

Draft Water Resources Management Plan published on our website in April and May 2008 for your feedback (representation)

We receive feedback from Defra and produce a statement detailing the considerations given to all received representations.
