What should I do if I'm concerned about paying my bill?
Please contact us immediately if you think you may find it difficult to pay your bill - there may be ways we can help you. If you're in arrears and have real problems paying your bill, call the Yorkshire Water Community Trust on 0845 1 24 24 26. The Community Trust is an independent charity funded by us to help in extreme cases of hardship.
What should I do if I notice a water leak?
Please call our free leakline on 0800 57 35 53 to report a water leak on your property or in the street. If the leak is on the private pipe supplying your home, ask about our free supply pipe repair scheme for domestic customers.
What if I have a septic tank?
If you've a septic tank which is connected to or overflows to the public sewer, you may be eligible for a rebate and our free emptying service.
What is surface water?
It's rainfall that falls on your property. In most cases it drains to the public sewer, and we include the cost of removing it in your sewerage charge. |
What if my surface water doesn't drain to the public sewer?
You may be able to claim a rebate. If eligible, your rebate will apply from 1 April in the financial year in which we receive your application. If you're a tenant, please ask your landlord to contact us.
Can I have a water meter fitted?
We've a free meter option scheme and can fit a meter at most homes. If you're a tenant, please tell your landlord that you plan to have a water meter installed. If you move to a property where there's already a meter fitted, we'll automatically charge you on a metered basis.
How do you calculate charges for my water meter?
We charge you for the amount of water you use. Customers who receive benefits or tax credits and use large quantities of water may be eligible for a special charge called WaterSure. To find out if this applies to you visit www.yorkshirewater.com/meter.
What if I can't have a water meter fitted?
If we can't fit a meter, you may choose to be charged an assessed charge based on the type of your property. There's an alternative charge for single person households. |
