I've been at Yorkshire Water nearly 7 years now and have learnt a lot in that time. The majority of my career has been in waste water and I have really enjoyed my time here. I was attracted to the apprenticeship scheme following work experience with one of Yorkshire Water's service partners. I was very interested in the water industry and the apprenticeship provided me with the ideal opportunity.
People who work here all have the same 'can do' attitude. Everybody supports each other from everyday tasks to escalating incidents. This is the same at all levels throughout the business and one you will realise brings everyone together to achieve one goal - to deliver the best service to our customers.
There are loads of opportunities within Yorkshire Water and I've worked hard throughout my career here to progress within the business. Every individual has a personal development plan that allows them record and monitor their career path.
I've recently been appointed as a people leader for an operational team who deal with pollution incidents and network assets such as pumping stations. This is a very exciting opportunity for me and one I really look forward to succeeding in. I've had a number of roles since completing my apprenticeship scheme in 2005.
I started as a waste water technician resolving pollution and flooding incidents caused by the public sewer network and progressed to complete a number of roles in customer service and asset management. I'm now managing a team of 14 network operators and 3 network performance engineers in the north area in which we operate and optimise the sewerage network.
