Jeff Lau

Jeff LauHi, I will start with a brief introduction of how I got to where I am now. I studied at Newcastle University studying computing science and graduated in 2010, I then applied for Yorkshire Water as an IT graduate. After a series of intensive recruitment processes I was accepted for the job.

I have only started this job a week ago, but from what I have learnt and seen during my induction week I feel this will be a very challenging yet rewarding experience and the support which will be available throughout the course of the two years are endless.

My first placement is in ICOM (integrated customers and operations management) team, I am involved in a couple of interesting projects which requires very specific skills and everyone in the team is very supporting in guiding me to acquire these skills.

So far I have really enjoyed myself, keeping checking to see my regular updates of my journey through the Yorkshire Water graduate scheme.

Hi again, hope everyone was alright through the freezing weather. The company has been really busy over the adverse weather keeping standards high at all times. I have also been really busy due the weather, because of the high demand in keep our IT systems running and troubleshooting technician's Tough books to make sure they perform flawlessly when they are needed.

Aside from my placement I have been involved with other projects outside of my placement, one that I am really interested in is the blackberry and lotus notes presentation I am working on. This project involves presenting in front of many senior managers to demonstrate all the wonderful features of which we can all benefit from in the company.

See you next time!

Hi,

I hope you all had an excellent Christmas and new year! Now that I am back from my holiday I have another 3 months left in my current placement before I move to service desk.

For the next 3 months I will be involved in our major toughbook upgrade which means a lot of travelling within Yorkshire. I am really looking forward to this project as I have mentioned before there will be a lot of travelling and I will get to meet new people from all around the business!

Aside from tasks within my placement, I have also joined the university liaison group which involves in organising events at universities such as presentations, cv workshops etc. So you might see me walking around on campus one day!

That's all for now catch up with me in my next blog.

Hi guys

It's getting closer and closer to Christmas, the snow is settling in, but work is still as busy as ever! I have just finished a Toughbook hand over event all the way in Salisbury, which was very enjoyable because of the paid for hotel and meals! I have more training coming up next week to improve on my presentation skills which hopefully after that I will have no problems presenting in front of large groups!

Hi again,

Much has happened since my last blog. I am now working with Field Operations within ICOM to assist with the major upgrade for all of Yorkshire Water's Toughbooks. This involves a lot of travelling and meeting new people within the business and allows me to get an in depth understanding to one of the company's most important equipment.

Aside from my main duties in Field Operations, I have been on various training courses including assertiveness training and performance management. These trainings gave me an insight about myself and my behaviours and possible room for improvement which I think will help me greatly in the future.

Lastly as it is approaching Christmas I have signed up on various Christmas activities organised in the company so hopefully my first Christmas at Yorkshire Water will be a memorable one.

See you in my next blog!

Jeff
