Amber Davis
Project Engineer
Started at Yorkshire Water in September 2005 on the Graduate Programme.
In 2005 I started on the graduate programme where I spent just under 2 years moving around the Environmental Business Unit on various placements. During this time I was able to gain a wide range of experience from project management, to optimisation and even management plans. Last June I moved into my first role as a Project Engineer.
My responsibilities are mainly split between Capital Scheme support and creating the Aeration Asset Plan. Some of my other activities include dealing with consent applications, supporting a UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) project and training our new Process Technicians.
I liked how Yorkshire Water represented itself on its website and I felt I was able to fit my qualifications with the job opportunities available. It appeared that Yorkshire Water were a company who cared about their community, who were concerned about the environment and who were continually making improvements.
One of the areas that struck me most was the section on their Community Cares Projects and how they encourage employees to volunteer during work time. At the moment I am also involved in One Million Green Fingers where I am organising the team activity for a school in Wakefield.
I enjoy the unpredictability of how things can change on a daily basis. Key to this is the support I get from my manager and other team members, if I ever feel I need help, there is always someone there help.
