The Big Transfer, which is planned for October 2011, will create many job opportunities in Yorkshire.

What's The Big Transfer?

During The Big Transfer, we'll take responsibility for all private sewers and lateral drains in the region, resulting in an additional 22,000km of pipework to maintain and service. As we already manage 32,000km of pipework, this transfer will create lots of new jobs in the area. Find out more

What happens once I have applied for a vacancy?

We do not currently have any live vacancies however if a vacancy is advertised in the future -

Firstly you should download the relevant application form for the role you wish to apply for. Then complete the form and send it to us by email at bigtransfer@yorkshirewater.co.uk stating clearly which role you are applying for. Completing the form should take around 45 minutes.

We will then invite you to take part in an online assessment. If your assessment is successful, we'll invite you to proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process. If you're unsuccessful, unfortunately your application will not be taken any further on this occasion.

Please note: Part time applicants will be required to undertake full time training for a period of up to 8 weeks. In addition to the salaries listed below, all Yorkshire Water employees are eligible for further pay based on performance.

Customer Experience

Customer Experience is a dedicated team of professionals who always strive to provide an excellent service to any customer who has to contact us.

Any issue which comes into our operational office is passed to a dedicated case manager who ensures that the customer only has to make one phone call and that the problem is completely resolved before closing the case down.

This enables us to move towards our vision of 'clearly the best' within the water industry and ensure we achieve a high score from Ofwat, the Government regulator.

Service Delivery Team

The Service Delivery Team responds to contacts from our customers, investigates problems on our network and inspects and investigates problems on our assets to prevent customer impacting issues. We do this through our own teams and our Service Partners.

Due to the forthcoming increase in the length of sewer network in our ownership, we are expanding our Customer Solution Teams. These teams carry out inspections of the sewer network to prevent sewer flooding, investigate the root cause of incidents when they occur, promote solutions to prevent future sewage escapes and provide technical support to our service partners.

Our aim is to manage the network so our customers have no need to contact us and to ensure they have an excellent experience if they do.

Developer Services

Developer Services provides an end to end service for developers and domestic customers who wish to connect to the water and sewerage network. Activities include answering and resolving internal and external customer enquiries by a dedicated contact centre, dealing with all related correspondence and applications.

These enquiries concern infrastructure design and verification of both clean and waste water networks, through to management of delivery of the constructed assets, via third party and contract partners.

Sewerage Network and Optimisation

We operate and optimise the sewerage network and its associated assets. As part of this, we work with domestic and commercial customers to make sure that we continue to have an effective sewerage network.

We respond to pollution incidents from our network assets, and look for ways to continually drive down service failure by making sure we respond to network performance triggers.

Network Control and Optimisation

The Yorkshire Water Central Control Room, in the Regional Operational Control Centre at Buttershaw, provides an essential and highly valued service to both internal and external customers.

We work closely with colleagues from across the wider Customer Service and Network Department, and also with our Service Partners (Clean and Waste). Always operating to tight deadlines and aiming to deliver the highest possible standards, the opportunity to exceed the expectations of all of our customers is ever present.

The Network Control & Optimisation Team plays a vital role in the monitoring, operation and control of the Company's Supply and Distribution infrastructure and operations. We are also responsible for the handling of work and commitments associated with the resolution of customer problems. Through effective monitoring, validation, optimisation and jeopardy management of work, confirming that work is correctly allocated to our operational colleagues and meeting commitments to our internal and external customers ensures that compliance is achieved and service is not compromised.

Asset Records

The GIS & Partner Support team within Asset Records are accountable for mapping and managing the records associated with Yorkshire Water's underground assets, including 60,000km+ of water mains and sewers, serving 2.1 million customers in Yorkshire.

Under the Water Industry Act, YW have a legal obligation to record all of the clean and waste water assets. This record has to be maintained and be made available to external agencies and the general public.

As stewards of the asset data, the team ensures the GIS map record meets the operational needs of the business and that the business understands and uses these records in the most appropriate way.
