Students Campus Goes Green
We've been working closely with The University of Hull on a water conservation project that aims to further improve efficiency at a number of its sites.
A detailed, but simple water audit was carried out on the main campuses highlighting where any potential savings could be made particularly within the universities washrooms.
With energy costs rising year on year water conservation is becoming a key concern for many of our business customers as they spot opportunities where they can make efficiencies and Universities are no different.
Our conservation experts spent a day auditing the site looking at the main water using facilities, identifying any faulty washroom fittings, and providing recommendations for work to rectify any water wasting areas.
The audits resulted in the installation of the following water conservation technologies:
- Push taps in washroom areas to that ensure water cannot be left running
- Flow regulators on taps and showers that restrict the amount of water coming out to six litres per minute. Before these were installed the taps were using 15 litres of water per minute which is not needed
- Cistern displacement devices that save one litre of water every time a toilet is flushed
- Urinal controls that fill and flush depending on occupancy
Ian Gibbs, energy manager at The University of Hull said: "There are two benefits to water conservation. Not only does the university benefit from reducing its water consumption and costs, it also benefits by reducing the amount of energy needed to heat the water, therefore reducing CO2 emissions."
Stuart Gilmour our Business Customer Services manager said: "By carrying out this simple water audit and fitting the most appropriate water conservation devices we have helped the university save almost £40,000 a year."
