Emergency Services Kept Flowing
We have just completed work on a £750,000 project at Airedale Hospital that will ensure the security of the water supply to all of the site's buildings.
Given the nature of a hospital's business, it is imperative that water supplies are maintained to all buildings at all times and therefore it is important the supply network is in the best possible condition.
The project has seen our contract partners Balfour Beatty Utilities replace and renew the existing 1.4km water main around the perimeter of the hospital using a combination of techniques which has included a technology that doesn't require excavation of lengthy sections to gain access to the pipes.
Airedale Hospital chose us as their preferred partner because we were able to use new technology which would guarantee access to crucial parts of the hospital like Accident and Emergency ensuring they were not disrupted by roadworks or loss of water supply.
Jeremy Lack our business customer manager commented: "It was vital that we could deliver this project to Airedale General Hospital by causing the least amount of disruption to patients. By using slip-lining technology, which is what we currently use on repairs to our own network, we were able to renew the water main by inserting a new, more robust plastic pipe inside the old water main giving the pipe a more secure structure.
"The work has not only improved the security of the site's water supply but it has also improved the water quality as the condition of the water pipes has been improved dramatically."
Airedale Hospital's Richard Bateson, head of capital and corporate services added: "Once the contract formalities were sorted out the project has been a model of good practice. Progress has been rapid and disruption has been practically non-existent, health and safety on site was very well controlled and the finished product displays an excellent standard of workmanship throughout. All in all, the Airedale NHS Trust is extremely pleased with the outcome."
