For those of you who are not familiar with a dataflow logger, it is a piece of equipment that is fitted to a water or waste water meter to help monitor flows and gain a better understanding of consumption patterns.

Although you're able to use third party contractors to fit dataloggers to our meters we ask that prior to installation you get in touch with us so that we can check their compatibility.

The reason for this is that last year a company installed a data logger to our meter without consulting with us and the logger exploded. This has now been removed in agreement with the customer but highlights the potential dangers.

Because of this it is for your own safety and indeed the safety of our colleagues who regularly access the meters for readings, that we ask you to get in touch with us should you be thinking of installing a logger. On top of this, we don't want you to waste money fitting a datalogger that isn't compatible with your meter and then have to remove it.

When you get in touch with us requesting access to our meters for data logging purposes we'll cross reference the meter details to confirm the meter serial number, make and location details and also determine whether the meter is loggable. Although there is a small administration fee attached to this check, it's important that we carry out the checks to save problems in the future.

You can be assured that if we've installed a datalogger to one of your meters it will of course be fully compliant.
