Code of Ethics
We're striving to be an open and trusting company. We need a common understanding of shared values of honesty, equity and fair dealing, and some guidance in important areas so that we all know where we stand.
This Code sets out a summary of what is expected of each of us, in all our dealings with other people in the group and outside.
Some parts of the Code, such as personal behaviour and the Law, need no further comment. Others do require some explanation. The Code includes discussion of these four areas:
- Confidentiality
- Outside employment
- Conflicts of interests
- Business gifts and entertainment
There are three golden rules to remember:
- How will it look to other people?
- If in doubt, always ask your manager
- Disclose all gifts and hospitality you receive in accordance with the Conflicts of Interest Policy
Personal Behaviour
We should consider the consequences of our actions on others in the work place, and ensure that our behaviour does not get in the way of our own or our colleagues' ability to perform our jobs effectively.
Confidentiality
We should exercise prudence and caution in using confidential information and in sharing it only with those who have a legitimate need to know.
Company Property and Time
We should only use Company property and time for business purposes.
Personal Expenses
Sums we claim as expenses or incur via corporate cards should have been directly and reasonably incurred in pursuit of business interests for the group. Expense payments will be paid up to the lower of the level of agreed allowances, or the extent of the expense.
Outside Employment
We should not undertake outside employment, whether paid or unpaid, which interferes with our ability to carry out our duties.
Committing the Company
We should only represent group companies or exercise authority on behalf of them, if that representation or authority lies within the scope of our job.
Conflicts of Interest
We should not put ourselves in a position where our personal interests conflict, or might be thought to conflict, with those of the group.
Improper Payments
We should not offer inducements of a sort that would be considered bribes in the course of doing business - either to obtain business or to retain it.
Business Gifts and Entertainment
We should not normally accept gifts or benefits of a personal nature from any customer of or supplier to the group or any other person or organisation, which does business with the group, other than those, recognised by the group as normal business practice.
The Law
We should always act within the law of the land.
